· Think before you post
· Know who you are communicating with
· Do you know who can view your online life?
· Would you show your Grandma?
· We all need to be educated about being SMART = Safe – Manners – Advertising – Research – Technology
· When on the Internet we need to THINK
o Tell a trusted adult if something on line upsets you
o Hide your password. Only ever share with your parents. Not even your friends. Always log out.
o Interesting websites can be fun. But check with your parents before playing.
o Be Nice to people online, yourself and others
o Keep your personal information safe. Never give out your real name, address or phone number online.

Relevance to teachers:
· Important to teach Cybersafety each year
· Need to offer parent information sessions at school
· Grid on netsafe website shows progression of skills for children and examples of policies and procedures
· Put regular posting of some of key points into school newsletters.

· Parents and teachers need to understand the internet to keep children safe
· We wouldn’t ban pencils! All tools need to be used safely – and need to teach this.
