This site has video clips and quotes and discussion starters and resources for staff meetings etc categorised under
· Why do they matter
· What are the competencies (leaders, teachers, pupils)
· How could we monitor them?
· A resource bank
· School stories.

The principles underpinning the Key Competencies are identified as
  • Active
  • Real / purposeful
  • Relevant
  • empowering
Relevance to teachers:

There will be little relevance to classroom teachers on this site until they put up sample units that show integration of the KCs, examples of how the KCs were being “taught” and how the implementation will look in a classroom.
Summary:
The site is a load of waffle and the breakout brokedown. The School Stories tell us nothing. (at least half walked out, and had it not been raining and me with no car nor brolly, I would have joined them.)
Strategies / Suggestions to implement into the classroom:

I got talking to a teacher from Wellington who has pinched an idea from his son’s school. They have abandoned homework and replaced it with a “Key skills STAR award” thing. It sounds a bit like all those badges they used to give the cubs for making a cup of tea or memorising 10 lines from the Bible, but he assured me the children were really enthusiastic.
You achieved the award through building up points by demonstrating to your parents. For example 50 points if you can cook a meal for the family, 10 points if you feed the cat for 2 weeks without being reminded etc.
After a certain level you received the award in a flash ceremony. Parental involvement was high because they “marked” the form and made comments and there was a chance for children to make choices about what they would work on.
Sounded a bit corny but he was adamant the kids were keen.
